Subcommittee Description

The Annual Meeting Planning Committee (AMPC) is responsible for delivering a world-class annual meeting (ACR Convergence) that advances the goals and objectives of the College and supports its continuing education mission. AMPC members provide strategic leadership, subject matter expertise, and evidence-based recommendations to guide program planning and development across six session tracks: Basic Science, Clinical, ARP, Business of Rheumatology, Pediatrics, and Workforce & Education.

Responsibilities

  • Review attendee evaluations from previous years’ annual meetings and relevant literature to inform educational planning
  • Conduct and evaluate needs assessments to identify and prioritize learner knowledge and practice gaps
  • Define educational needs and develop measurable learning objectives for the overall meeting and individual sessions/tracks
  • Determine and prioritize meeting topics aligned with identified needs and ACR strategic priorities
  • Review session proposals and recommend topics, formats, and faculty selections
  • Recommend and recruit qualified faculty in accordance with conflict of interest and content integrity standards
  • Collaborate with ACR staff to ensure alignment with strategic, financial, and operational considerations
  • Complete assigned reviews and tasks to ensure compliance with ACCME, ABIM, and other applicable accreditation standards

The ACR staff is responsible for the administration and project management of all initiatives and programs.

Time Commitments

Planning for ACR Convergence begins in November of the previous year (e.g., November 2026 for ACR Convergence 2027). The busiest period generally occurs between December and March.

Virtual

  • Subcommittee members are assigned to work on one of the session tracks. Each session track group may meet at least once, and possibly twice, per month for 1.5–2 hours to plan sessions between December and March. Meetings are scheduled based on the members' schedules.

In-Person

  • Select members are also expected to attend the AMPC Planning Meeting, which occurs in January–March
  • AMPC members are expected to attend ACR Convergence. Committee members may serve in a faculty role (e.g., moderators, Knowledge Bowl judges, poster tour guides)

Recommended Qualifications

The AMPC welcomes applicants from all ACR and ARP member categories to ensure diverse expertise and balanced representation. The subcommittee includes six teams—ARP (Interprofessional), Basic Science, Clinical, Business of Rheumatology, Pediatrics, and Workforce & Education—and we encourage early- and mid-career professionals from these areas to apply. Experience in education or instructional design is valued, and ACR/ARP members who are patients are strongly encouraged to apply to ensure the patient perspective is represented.

Interested participants for this subcommittee should have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Possess the ability to create and/or evaluate needs assessments to ensure educational activities address learner needs and practice gaps
  • Be able to guide innovative learning formats, including emerging educational methodologies, interactive learning, and technology-enabled education
  • Possess the ability to evaluate content for clinical relevance and applicability to the intended audience
  • Be able to apply adult learning theory to educational activities
  • Be able to review the development of educational objectives that are measurable, learner-centered, and align with identified knowledge gaps
