William F. Harvey, MD, MSc, FACR, Named 89th President of the American College of Rheumatology

CHICAGO – The American College of Rheumatology (ACR) is proud to announce the appointment of William F. Harvey, MD, MSc, FACR, as its new President, effective October 28, 2025. Dr. Harvey brings more than two decades of clinical, academic, and informatics leadership to the role, along with a longstanding commitment to advancing rheumatologic care, research, and advocacy.

Dr. Harvey currently serves as Associate Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, Chief Medical Informatics Officer at Tufts Medicine, and Co-Director of the Informatics Program at the Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute. His career has been defined by a unique blend of clinical excellence, health informatics innovation, and policy leadership.

A graduate of Penn State University and the Boston University School of Public Health, Dr. Harvey completed his internal medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and his rheumatology fellowship at Boston University Medical Center, where he also participated in the NIH-funded Clinical Research Training Program.

Dr. Harvey has held numerous leadership roles within the ACR, including Chair of the Committee on Government Affairs, Chair of the Committee on Registries and Health Information Technology (RISE), and multiple terms on the ACR Board of Directors. He has been a driving force behind the College’s efforts in health policy, data-driven care, and strategic planning.

“Dr. Harvey’s deep expertise in both rheumatology and clinical informatics positions him uniquely to lead the ACR into a future where data, technology, and patient-centered care intersect,” said Dr. Carol Langford, Immediate Past President. “His vision and collaborative spirit will be instrumental in guiding our community through the evolving healthcare landscape.”

In addition to his academic and professional achievements, Dr. Harvey is a respected educator and mentor, having developed and taught courses in health information systems and decision support. He has also served on numerous institutional committees focused on care improvement, health justice, and artificial intelligence in medicine.

During his presidency he plans to focus on expanding the ACR’s advocacy efforts to ensure access to high-quality rheumatologic care, enhancing member engagement by creating a sense of community, and supporting innovation in clinical education and research. He also aims to foster collaboration across specialties and promote optimism and inclusion within the rheumatology community.
