Committee Description
The ACR Committee on Global Engagement promotes productive interactions between the ACR and its international members and constituents.
Responsibilities
- Review and make recommendations regarding global collaborations and opportunities focusing on education, training, research, and volunteering
- Coordinate with various ACR and ARP committees on products and programs with a global reach
- Coordinate speakers for International Congresses (e.g., AFLAR, EULAR, PANLAR, etc)
- Provide input on program development, promote opportunity to international members, review speaker applications for Rheumatology Research Network
- Coordinate Global Exchange Programs (selection process, program development)
- Coordinate Global Communications/Network Development Activities (input on development of Global networks and promotion outreach)
The ACR staff is responsible for administration and project management of all initiatives and programs.
Time Commitments
Virtual
- 4 meetings per volunteer year (March, July, Sept, December). Typically, meetings are 1.5 hours and take place after 5:00 PM ET
- The committee will conduct business in between meetings using virtual communication
- The committee may hold an additional 3–5 full or small-group meetings per volunteer year based upon the needs of ongoing projects and programs
- For committee chair, approximately 175–200 hours will be spent on outside work per volunteer year
- For members-at-large, approximately 30–50 hours will be spent on outside work per volunteer year
Recommended Qualifications
The ACR Committee on Global Engagement welcomes all interested volunteers. The committee mix would benefit by adding more rheumatology professionals (APPs (NP, PA, RN), PhD, OT, PT).
Interested participants for this committee should have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Living and/or working internationally
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills while being able to be an active listener
- Interest in global health, health equity and social justice
- Passion for advancing the field of rheumatology
