Committee Description
The ACR Committee on Nominations and Appointments shall make nominations for ACR Volunteer positions: Secretary/Treasurer, who will become President-Elect at the end of the Secretary/Treasurer term, then President in the following year; Members-at-Large of the Board of Directors of the ACR; Chairs and Members of ACR Committees; with the exception of the Committee on Nominations and Appointments.
Responsibilities
Per the ACR Bylaws, the ACR Committee on Nominations and Appointments is responsible for reviewing volunteer applications and making recommendations for approval by the BOD for the following volunteer positions:
- Secretary, Treasurer and Members-at-Large of the Board of Directors
- Chairs of Committees (other than those where an Officer serves a Chair)
- Members of all standing Committees, with the exception of the Committee on Nominations and Appointments
- The Abstract Oversight Committee, a subcommittee of the Committee on Education
- The Chair of the Affiliate Society Council, a subcommittee of the Committee on Rheumatologic Care
Activities
- Review assigned applications
- Prepare presentation for the broader committee to guide decision making regarding the selected applicants to recommend to the BOD
The ACR staff is responsible for the administration and project management of all initiatives and programs.
Time Commitments
The majority of the workload occurs between May 15–August 15 each year.
Virtual
- Asynchronous Work
- Between May 15 to July 15 – hours depends on the number to applications assigned to review (can be very busy based on the volume of applications in a given year)
- Between July 15 to August 15 – a few hours needed to contact successful applicants and other needed communication
In-Person
- 2-day meeting that occurs in July (involves the weekend)
- Virtual attendance via Zoom is permitted
Committee Composition
The Board of Directors selects members of the ACR Committee on Nominations and Appointments who are:
- The immediate past president of the ACR, who shall serve as Chair
- The immediate past president of the ARP
- One (1) Member-at-Large from the ACR Board of Directors
- One (1) Transitional Member – FIT
- Seven (7) members from among the Fellows, International Fellows and/or Members of the ACR which reflect the following representations:
- One (1) with research experience
- Two (2) in community practice
- One (1) involved in ACR educational activities
- One (1) specializing in pediatrics
- One (1) with an early career voice
- One (1) representing experience in diversity initiatives
- The current ACR and ARP Presidents may participate in meetings of the Committee on Nominations and Appointments as invited guests.
Term
The Chair, the immediate past president of the ARP, the Member-at-Large from the ACR Board of Directors, and the Transitional Member – FIT shall each serve a one (1) year term.
All other members will serve two (2) year terms.
Note: Restrictions. During their term, members of the committee will not be eligible for nomination or election as an officer, Board member, or Committee Chair.
Recommended Qualifications
The ACR Committee on Nominations and Appointments welcomes interested volunteers. The committee benefits from having members with some knowledge and general understanding of the work of ACR committees and various volunteer opportunities across the College is helpful.
Interested participants for this committee should have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
