Committee Description
The ACR Committee on Training develops educational resources for rheumatology learners and educators, creates networking spaces and career development for rheumatology trainees and educators.
Responsibilities
- Promote career development in rheumatology education
- Plan the ACR Educators Conference program
- Create opportunities for networking and collaboration among rheumatology training program directors, faculty, educational scholars, and rheumatology trainees
- Provide input to the ACR Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), ACR Annual Meeting Planning Committee (AMPC), and Association for Subspecialty Professors (ASP) in support of rheumatology education and training, with one committee member serving as liaison to each group
- Oversee the ACR Committee on Training’s five subcommittees, which develop and manage educational resources and programs for rheumatology learners and educators:
- E-Learning Subcommittee – develops and manages Rheum2Learn, Rheum4Science, ViP (Pediatrics), and V-FIT: Meet the Professors
- Educator Resources Subcommittee – manages and updates the rheumatology Core Curriculum and rheumatology mini-curriculums
- Pediatric Training Subcommittee – plans the Pediatric Business Meeting
- Fellow in Training (FIT) Subcommittee – plans the Convergence Fellows Program and SOTA Fellows Program
- In Service Training Exam (ITE) Subcommittee – manages the In Service Training Exam and writes exam questions
The ACR staff is responsible for the administration and project management of all initiatives and programs.
Time Commitments
Virtual
- Meetings: 3–4 times a year for 1.5 hours, usually between 11:00 AM and 5:30 PM ET
- Asynchronous Work: 2–3 hours per month
- Committee members appointed as an ACR Committee on Training liaison to another ACR committee will be required to attend additional meetings, typically 1–1.5 hours each, up to four times per year
In-Person
- 1.5-hour meeting during ACR Convergence
- 2-hour committee meeting during the Educators Conference
Recommended Qualifications
The ACR Committee on Training welcomes all interested volunteers. The committee would benefit from members from fellowship programs in the southern region of the US and early and seasoned program directors.
Interested participants for this committee should have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Experience as a program director or associate program director; work with learners at different training levels
- Experience developing curriculum materials
- Experience engaging in education‑focused research
