Council Description
The Foundation Development Advisory Council (DAC) provides leadership for success in advancing the Rheumatology Research Foundation’s philanthropic and fundraising goals.
Responsibilities
- Champion the Foundation and the Foundation's fundraising efforts among colleagues and friends
- Assist as appropriate in opening doors and/or making introductions to potential donors
- Assist in donor cultivation and/or gratitude activities (email and/or phone calls to a specified group) and serve on a DAC Subgroup
- Attend minimum of three (3) meetings annually [Virtual (2); In-Person (1)]
- Receive guidance and training from Philanthropy Team on fundraising best practices/strategy, and plan
- Support the Foundation with a financial gift that is personally significant and commensurate to the role setting example for potential donors (suggested minimum: $500 unrestricted, annual)
The RRF staff is responsible for the administration and project management of all initiatives and programs.
Time Commitments
- Total Time Commitment: 12–15 hours per year
The bulk of the time commitment includes three meetings, which may vary in length depending on virtual (one hour) or in-person (two hours + travel time). DAC members’ assignments, which can be planned out according to the Annual Philanthropy Plan, will vary throughout the year.
Virtual meetings are usually held between 7:00–8:00 PM ET.
Recommended Qualifications
The DAC members includes rheumatology professionals, patients and corporate employees. The DAC membership mix would benefit from adding practice professionals.
Interested participants for this council should have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Conviction in the Foundation's mission to advance rheumatology research and training
- Commitment to advancing philanthropy (fundraising)
- Demonstration of leadership through a personal financial commitment
- Willingness to travel nationally periodically
- Willingness to volunteer for a minimum term of three (3) years
- Positive, enthusiastic attitude
