Committee Description
The ACR Committee on Education oversees policies and guidelines for rheumatology continuing medical education (CME) and professional education products across all career stages. The committee provides final approval for ACR CME-accredited meetings and programs, oversees educational materials bearing the ACR name, and establishes subcommittees and task forces as needed to advance its objectives.
Responsibilities
- Oversees policies and/or guidelines for programs on continuing medical education (CME) in rheumatology and professional education products for specialists and primary care physicians at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels
- Manages the development and provides final approval for any meetings or programs for which CME credit is granted by the ACR
- Manages the development of any educational products or materials that bears the ACR name
- Organizes and establishes subcommittees and task forces as the committee deems necessary or appropriate to carry out its objectives, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors or the Executive Committee and Executive Vice President
The ACR staff is responsible for the administration and project management of all initiatives and programs.
Time Commitments
Virtual
- Meetings: The COE meets 6–7 times per year, typically on an every other month basis; meetings are held after 5:00 PM ET and generally last one hour
- Asynchronous Work: Approximately 2–3 hours per month
In-Person
- Meetings: The COE meets during ACR Convergence for 1–2 hours
Recommended Qualifications
The ACR Committee on Education welcomes all interested volunteers. The committee mix would benefit from a mid-career level perspective.
Interested participants for this committee should have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Ability to align educational initiatives with ACR’s mission and strategic priorities
- Knowledge of adult learning principles, evidence based instructional strategies, and curriculum design
- Ability to interpret clinical data, evaluation results, learner analytics, and performance metrics
- Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining policies and procedures
- Insight on budget management and responsible use of organizational resources
- Working knowledge of CE/CME accreditation standards (e.g., ACCME, Joint Accreditation)
