Committee Description
The ACR Committee on Journals and Publications (CJP) oversees the management of the ACR's journals.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the operational activities of the ACR journals' editors (e.g., acceptance rates, editorial office performance—not editorial content)
- Vet editor candidates
- Recommend Editorial Board compensation
- Monitor the journals' Impact Factors and other quality metrics
- Oversee the journals' ethics policies (e.g., financial disclosures, ghostwriters, etc.)
- Oversee new and emerging issues (e.g., OrCid, data sharing and deposition requirements, AI policies, etc.)
The ACR staff is responsible for the administration and project management of all initiatives and programs.
Time Commitments
Virtual
- Meetings: Three (3) times a year for 2 hours each
- Asynchronous Work: 2–4 hours per month of work between meetings
Recommended Qualifications
The ACR Committee on Journals and Publications welcomes all interested volunteers. The committee mix would benefit from having members with knowledge about the influence of AI in medical journals, the strategic mission of the journals (e.g., Impact Factor, readership issues, etc.).
Interested participants for this committee should have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Awareness of competitive publications in the field of rheumatology
- Experience as an author and reviewer
- Interest in scholarly publishing and academic medicine
- Awareness and understanding of Open Access, Public Access, and trends in the open science movement
- Awareness of AI/plagiarism issues and debate
- Awareness of publishing ethics and concerns
