Committee Description
The ACR Committee on Quality of Care (QOC) oversees quality-related activities that impact the practice of rheumatology. This includes the development of classification and response criteria, practice guidelines, guidance documents, and quality measures.
QOC members participate in oversight of this work that is largely conducted by project teams and subcommittees, as well as related policies, procedures, and processes.
Responsibilities
ACR Member Chair
- Support ACR’s mission and have demonstrated commitment to and involvement with the College
- Review materials and manuscripts while maintaining objectivity and genuine interest in all constituents
- Lead QOC meetings and aid members in achieving consensus
- Participate in 2–4 ACR virtual/in-person Board meetings per year plus email discussions, as needed
- Participation includes coming prepared (e.g., reviewing and/or helping ACR staff prepare materials related to QOC) and being aware of action items and discussions, particularly those that affect QOC
- Participate in ACR discussions with external organizations and individuals, as needed, to represent the ACR’s positions and/or interests related to QOC activities
Member-at-Large
- Review materials and manuscripts to provide feedback and ensure alignment with ACR methodology and organizational priorities
- Participate in discussions related to ACR documents and policy to achieve consensus
- Provide subject matter expertise when requested
The ACR staff is responsible for administration and project management of all initiatives and programs.
Time Commitments
ACR Member Chair
Virtual
- Meetings: 2 times a year (Zoom in January and May/June)
- Additional Calls: 2–3 hours per month for calls with ACR staff to oversee ongoing QOC activities
- 3–4 Board Meetings: Average 3 hours per meeting for preparation and attendance
- Approximately 8–10 hours per year for reviewing materials and manuscripts
In-Person
- One meeting during ACR Convergence
Member-at-Large
Virtual
- Meetings: 3 times a year (Zoom in January and May/June)
- Approximately 8–10 hours per year for meetings, reviewing materials, and manuscripts
In-Person
- One meeting during ACR Convergence
Recommended Qualifications
The ACR Committee on Quality of Care welcomes all interested volunteers. The committee mix would benefit from adding pediatric rheumatologists, mid-career professionals (10 to 19 years post fellowship) and private practice representation from diverse practice settings.
Interested participants for this committee should have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Experience in systematic literature reviews and/or meta-analyses, epidemiology, decision analysis, quality improvement, development of criteria, guidelines, or quality measures
- Passion for advancing the field of rheumatology
- Professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, sound judgement, and emotional intelligence
- Ability to balance academic rigor with practical applicability of QOC products that deliver on end-user needs
- Collaborative, flexible, adaptive, and inclusive to all
- Good verbal and written communication skills, while being able to be an active listener
