Committee Description
The Committee on Training develops educational resources for rheumatology learners and educators, creates opportunities for networking and collaboration among rheumatology training program directors, faculty, educational scholars, and rheumatology trainees, and promotes career development in rheumatology education.
Responsibilities
- Plan the ACR Educators Conference program
- Identify guidance or compliance information that should be disseminated to fellowship programs
- Provide input for the ACR FIT Scholarship Program
- Develop committee ACR Convergence session proposals for submission to the Annual Meeting Planning Committee, with one committee member serving as a liaison to promote the sessions and coordinate the ones accepted
- Provide input to the ACR Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee and ACR Annual Meeting Planning Committee (AMPC) in support of rheumatology education and training, with one committee member serving as liaison to each group
- Oversee the ACR Committee on Training’s five subcommittees
- E-Learning Subcommittee – develops and guides Rheum2Learn, Rheum4Science, ViP (Pediatrics), and V-FIT: Meet the Professors
- Educator Resources Subcommittee – Updates the rheumatology Core Curriculum and reviews rheumatology mini-curriculums
- Pediatric Training Subcommittee – plans the Pediatric Business Meeting
- Fellow in Training (FIT) Subcommittee – plans the Convergence Fellows Program and SOTA Fellows Program
- In Service Training Exam (ITE) Subcommittee – leads the In Service Training Exam and writes exam questions
The ACR staff is responsible for the administration and project management of all initiatives and programs.
Time Commitments
Virtual
- Meetings: 3–4 times a year for 1.5 hours, usually between 11:00 AM and 5:30 PM ET
- Asynchronous Work: 2–3 hours per month
- Committee members appointed as an ACR Committee on Training liaison to another ACR committee will be required to attend additional meetings, typically 1–1.5 hours each, up to four times per year
In-Person
- 1.5-hour meeting during ACR Convergence
- 2-hour committee meeting during the Educators Conference
Recommended Qualifications
The Committee on Training welcomes all interested volunteers, based on project priorities for 2026–2027, the committee needs early and seasoned program directors.
Interested participants for this committee should have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Experience as a program director or associate program director; work with learners at different training levels
- Experience developing curriculum materials
- Experience engaging in education‑focused research
