Subcommittee Description
International advisors (IAs) are the ACR’s local representatives around the world, engaging with members and organizations and helping to identify opportunities for ACR activity. They provide advice and guidance on a range of professional, education and training, cultural, and political issues, giving insight into health systems and local epidemiology.
As ACR representatives, IAs are expected to constantly act in a professional manner with integrity, confidentiality, sound judgment, and emotional intelligence.
IAs must live within the country/region they represent. If they relocate, they will be expected to demit from their role and a replacement will be sought.
Responsibilities
- Represent the ACR to relevant international rheumatologic organizations.
- Engage with members and fellows locally/nationally, including opportunities to do so. This will include:
- Holding meetings with members/fellows
- Presenting on the ACR
- Sharing information and questions from members/fellows to the relevant member of the Global Engagement Committee
- Advising the ACR on issues of importance to members and fellows in their region
- Advising the ACR about relevant local issues, particularly as they affect medical education and the practice of medicine
- Assist and advise on local arrangements for ACR activity
- Alerting the ACR to opportunities relevant to its areas of interest and expertise
- Building and maintaining networks and partnerships, including those with medical institutions members and fellows, governments, charities, funders, and sponsors in line with the global strategy and agreed priorities
- Advising on potential partner institutions in their country or region
- Advising the Global Engagement Committee on the development and delivery of country engagement strategies for priority countries/regions in line with the ACR strategy
- Representing the ACR at relevant internal/external meetings and meeting with other ACR leadership to brief them on activities and facilitate the nomination of suitable candidates for membership/fellowship and advise on other nominations from their country
- Writing, if requested, articles for the ACR website and publications
- Attending and contributing to the regional and/or global meetings of IAs
The ACR staff is responsible for the administration and project management of all initiatives and programs.

- Typically 2 hours per month
Recommended Qualifications
Interested participants for this subcommittee should have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Knowledge of ACR/ARP programs and impact
- Active involvement in respective national and regional rheumatology organizations
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and able to be an active listener
