The ARP Executive Committee has the following open positions. All positions are hybrid (both virtual and in-person activities expected of the volunteer).

Role Description
The Secretary serves a one year term and is the first step in the ARP officer pathway. A four-year commitment to the ARP leadership team is required.
After serving as Secretary, the volunteer serves as President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President in subsequent years.
- The President and President-Elect serve on the ACR Executive Committee and the ACR Board of Directors.
- The Immediate Past President serves as the Chair of the ARP Committee on Nominations and Appointments.
Responsibilities
- Keep minutes and verify quorum at meetings of the ARP Executive Committee
- Serve as an Invited Guest on the ARP Committee on Nominations and Appointments
- Coordinate plans for the year to ensure monthly ARP representation in The Rheumatologist; work with ARP Executive Committee members to develop the schedule of submissions
The ARP staff are responsible for the administration and project management of all initiatives and programs.
Time Commitments
Virtual
- ARP Executive Committee Meetings: Once every other month, 2 hours, usually after 5:00 PM ET
- ARP Officers Meetings: Once per month, 1 hour, usually midday ET
- Asynchronous Work: 1–2 hours per month
- Committee on Nominations & Appointments Responsibilities
- Meetings: Once every month for about 1 hour, typically after 5:00 PM ET, between January–May
- 1 or 2-day virtual meeting via Zoom in July to discuss applications and place volunteers
In-Person
- ARP Executive Committee Retreat: Once per year, usually a long weekend (e.g., Friday to Sunday) in the spring
- ARP Executive Committee Meeting at ACR Convergence
Recommended Qualifications
Interested participants for this committee should have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Demonstrate strong leadership within the ARP
- Complete at least one year of service on the ARP Executive Committee
- Complete two years in a leadership role—such as Chair, Co-Chair, Lead, or a similar position—within the ARP, ACR, and/or the Foundation

- Fiduciary & Legal Awareness: Support the ARP to make responsible, ethical decisions and review basic financial information such as budgets and reports
- Strategic Leadership: Demonstrate big‑picture thinking—helping set direction, supporting the strategic plan, and ensuring our work stays aligned with the ARP mission
- Mission Stewardship: Champion and promote our purpose and values at the center of conversations and decisions
- Executive Partnership: Collaborate with the Executive Director as part of the leadership team
- Advocacy & Ambassadorship: Represent the ARP, build connections, and help strengthen the interprofessional community
Key Skills & Qualities
- Financial Literacy: Demonstrate basic understanding of a budget or financial reports
- Communication: Express ideas clearly, listen well, and contribute thoughtfully to group discussions
- Active Participation: Prepare for and attend meetings and serve on committees as outlined in the ARP Rules of Procedure
- Commitment to the Mission: Demonstrate strong support for ARP’s work and a motivation to support its growth
