The Training Rheum is an impactful, concise training program for advanced practice providers (APPs) new to rheumatology. This virtual program combines virtual asynchronous learning and a virtual live training day to educate APPs on comprehensive history and physical examinations for new patients; performing a disease-focused history and physical examination for established patients; formulating an appropriate differential diagnosis; ordering appropriate diagnostic testing and interpreting testing to create treatment plans; recognizing the impact of social determinants of health; discerning skin disease manifestations in diverse populations; and developing the ability to diagnose and manage rheumatic diseases in the rheumatology setting.
On-demand access will include recordings of each lecture.
Target Audience
This activity will be designed for advanced practice providers (APPs) which encompasses both nurse practitioners and physician assistants, fellows in training, and pharmacists who are new to rheumatology.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Be versed in components of a history and physical examination for a new patient, including a detailed musculoskeletal examination, joint assessment, and joint injections
- Be proficient with foundational components of a disease-focused history and physical examination for a follow-up patient, including musculoskeletal examination, joint assessment, and joint injections
- Formulate an appropriate differential diagnosis
- Order appropriate laboratory, radiographic examinations, and other diagnostic testing
- Utilize and integrate results of laboratory, radiographic examinations, and other diagnostic testing into management plans under the supervision/collaboration of a rheumatologist
- Recognize the impact of social determinants of health and health disparities on provision of care and disease self-management when providing healthcare to diverse communities and populations
- Recognize skin manifestations in diverse patient populations/ skin of color
- With appropriate supervision/collaboration, recognize and manage a number of rheumatic diseases in the adult and pediatric rheumatology clinic setting

Cancellations and Refund Requests
- All registrations are final and non-refundable. Please submit any issues in writing to education@rheumatology.org and they will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If a refund is granted, an administrative fee will be deducted: $100 for members and $150 for non-members.
- No-shows will not receive a refund.
- Cancelled registrations are nontransferable.
